Why most of them slide

Most ankle socks slide. Two kilometres into a run the heel slips under your foot and the back of the shoe starts working on bare skin. You spend the rest of the session pulling it back up.

We built the Ankle Tab to stay put. The heel is knitted at 90 degrees and holds the shape of your foot. A tab above the heel sits between your skin and the back of the shoe. The cuff hugs the ankle without digging in.

What it is made of

Recycled COOLMAX® yarn pulls sweat off your skin and dries faster than cotton, bamboo and wool, and silver yarn in the footbed deals with the bacteria behind the smell. Under the foot and through the Achilles there are terry loops to cushion the landing, the toe is seamless, and the heel and toe are reinforced where socks wear through first. There's arch support and mesh ventilation too. Every pair is 85% COOLMAX EcoMade (the fibre itself is 100% recycled), 10% silver yarn and 5% elastane.

Where it sits

Ankle Tab covers the foot and ends on the ankle bone. Wear it with runners and trainers, at the gym and on the weekend. It is the lowest of our four gym socks. With boots or under a suit, wear our crew socks. They sit below the calf. If you want more sock than an ankle cut and less than a crew, our quarter crew socks sit between the two. Two sizes, US M 5-9 / W 6.5-10.5 and US M 9-13 / W 11-14.

What are ankle socks?

A sock that covers the foot and ends at the ankle bone, higher than a no-show sock and lower than a quarter or crew sock. It is the cut for runners and shorts. Ankle Tab adds a tab knitted above the heel.

How do I stop them slipping into my shoe?

Ankle socks slide when the heel is a straight tube and the cuff has no stretch. Every step then pulls the sock under the foot. DryStep's Ankle Tab has a 90 degree heel that follows the shape of your foot and a heel tab that protects the back of your ankle from rubbing against your shoe. The stretchy cuff hugs the ankle and keeps them in place as you move.

Ankle or crew?

Ankle socks go with runners and shorts, crew socks with boots and dress shoes. Crew handles the gym and a run as well. Wear it if you're going from work to training in one pair. Ankle Tab is the lower cut for the gym and a run. Fibre, cushioning and sizing match on both.

Is it the same as a no-show or a quarter sock?

No. A no-show sock hides below the shoe line. An ankle sock ends on the ankle bone, and on Ankle Tab the tab shows above the heel of the shoe. A quarter sock sits higher again, between the ankle and Mid-Crew. Ours run Ankle Tab, Quarter, Mid-Crew in that order. Our Mid-Crew socks finish above the ankle bone and have a ribbed cuff.

Are they good for running?

Yes. The tab keeps the back of the shoe off your heel and the cushioned terry loops under the foot soften each stride. COOLMAX keeps your feet dry over the distance, while silver yarn in the footbed helps reduce odour.

What about sweaty feet?

Cotton and bamboo soak up sweat and keep it against your skin. COOLMAX pulls it through to the outer face of the sock to dry, and the silver yarn underfoot stops the bacteria that cause the smell. Wash them inside out in cold water and hang them to dry. For feet that sweat more than most, every cut in our moisture wicking socks uses the same fibre.
