Why socks slide down or dig in

By 2pm most everyday socks have slid down into your trainers and bunched up under your heel. The ones that stay up do it with a tight band that leaves a ring around your leg.

Ours stay up without squeezing because a stretchy ribbed cuff hugs your leg above the ankle bone and the 90 degree heel follows the shape of your foot.

We knit Mid-Crew from recycled COOLMAX® yarn. It wicks sweat away from your skin and dries faster than cotton, bamboo and wool. In the footbed we add silver yarn to stop odour where it starts. Cushioned terry loops under the foot and through the Achilles soften every step. There's also a reinforced heel and toe, a seamless toe, arch support and breathable mesh ventilation in the forefoot that lets heat out of your shoe.

How high they sit and what to wear them with

Mid-Crew sits about 4cm lower than our crew socks. Wear them with trainers and shorts, under chinos at the office, or with boots and work pants. They come in white, black, vanilla and mist grey, in both sizes, US M 5-9 / W 6.5-10.5 and US M 9-13 / W 11-14.

Everyday wear, training and sport

Plenty of people wear Mid-Crew every day, to the office in the morning and on to the gym after work in the same pair. Soft cushioning and the stretchy cuff keep your feet comfortable through a 12-hour day like that. For others they're strictly training socks. Mid-Crew is one of our four gym socks and goes on the bike, on the court and for 18 holes as well.

What are mid-crew socks?

A mid-crew sock finishes above the ankle bone, higher than a quarter sock and lower than a crew sock. You'll also see this height sold as half crew. DryStep's Mid-Crew has a stretchy ribbed cuff and the same soft terry loop cushioning as every cut we make.

Which is longer, crew or mid-crew?

Crew is longer, by about 4cm. It finishes below the calf with a finer rib that looks cleaner under trousers. Mid-Crew shows less sock with shorts and still sits clean under chinos. Both have the same yarn, cushioning and sizes.

How do they compare with ankle socks?

It comes down to your shoe and how much sock you want showing. Our ankle socks end on the ankle bone with a tab above the heel of the shoe and suit runs, the gym, golf and warm days. Mid-Crew covers the ankle and goes with boots and long pants as well as trainers.

Is a quarter sock the same thing?

No. Our quarter crew socks sit lower on the leg, between the ankle and Mid-Crew. People wear Quarter for the gym, classes, runs and golf. When you compare brands, go by where the cuff finishes, because the names get used loosely.

Are they men's or women's socks?

Both. Mid-Crew is unisex, in two sizes labelled for men and women: US M 5-9 / W 6.5-10.5 and US M 9-13 / W 11-14. Pick by shoe size: a women's 10 is the smaller size and a women's 11 the bigger one. All four colours come in both.

Can I run in them?

A lot of our customers do, marathons included. All four of our cuts can tackle any run. Our COOLMAX yarn dries fast over a long run and the cushioned terry loops soften each stride. Mid-Crew suits runners who like some sock showing above the shoe.
