Wet, heavy socks by the second half

By the second half of a game, most socks are soaked through and heavy in your shoes. Every landing and hard stop pushes your foot around inside the shoe and bunches the wet sock under your heel.

DryStep socks are knit from recycled COOLMAX® yarn. It pulls the sweat off your skin as you play and dries faster than cotton, bamboo and wool. Cushioned terry loops under the foot and through the Achilles soften each stride and landing. A 90 degree heel follows the shape of your foot and keeps your socks from bunching under it. Around your leg, a stretchy ribbed cuff keeps them in place as you move. The smell in your gym bag after a game comes from the bacteria that feed on sweat. We use silver yarn in each footbed to kill them. Breathable mesh ventilation in the forefoot lets the heat out of a high-top. Both cuts also have arch support and a seamless toe. We reinforce the heel and toe to take the wear of hard stops.

Crew or Mid-Crew in basketball shoes

Our crew socks come up past the collar of a high-top and finish below the calf. For less sock showing with shorts, our mid-crew socks are about 4cm shorter and stop above the ankle bone. If you want a white sock on court, Mid-Crew comes in white as well as black, vanilla and mist grey. You'll find both cuts in Medium (US M 5-⁠9 / W 6.5-⁠10.5) and Large (US M 9-⁠13 / W 11-⁠14).

How are basketball socks different from regular socks?

They sit taller, carry more cushioning and use a yarn that moves sweat off your skin. Most everyday socks are cotton and soak up sweat until they're heavy in the shoe. Ours are knit from COOLMAX and have soft terry loop cushioning under the foot and through the Achilles. Their stretchy ribbed cuff keeps them up through a full game.

Can you wear ankle socks with basketball shoes?

With a low-top, yes. A high-top's collar sits around your ankle and rubs on the bare skin above a low sock. That's why a sock for basketball usually comes up to crew height. Our ankle socks, Ankle Tab, sit on the ankle bone with a tab above the heel of the shoe and suit a low-top.

Should you double sock for basketball?

Some players do, to fill out a roomy shoe and add cushioning. If your shoe fits, try one pair of ours on its own first. It's as thick as a gym sock and cushioned under the foot and through the Achilles.

Do you need grip socks for basketball?

You don't need them, though some players like the extra hold. Grip socks have rubber pads under the foot to stop it sliding inside the shoe. We don't make them (yet). Ours stay put on their 90 degree heel and stretchy ribbed cuff. A dry sock also slides less in the shoe than a wet one.

What socks are best for netball?

A cushioned sock that stays put when you land and pivot, in a fast-drying yarn. Netball is the same hard court and the same quick changes of direction as basketball. Some of our customers wear Crew to work and to netball.
